Still Showing Up: The Real Story of Staying in the Game
Still Showing Up: The Real Story of Staying in the Game
I’m an older dad. I had kids later in life, and I want to be the kind of parent who can still keep up with my kids on the ice, on the floor, and in life. But that’s not just luck or genetics — it’s a commitment to a certain lifestyle and taking my health seriously.
I still play ice hockey. I still lift weights five times a week. I eat a high-protein diet and I’m mindful of everything I put into my body. I take my omegas, my anti-aging vitamins, and yes, I responsibly use testosterone and low-dose growth hormone. I also use peptides.
Why? Because my body has been through a lot. I’ve had a 2-level microdiscectomy, multiple back surgeries, and a severe S1 nerve injury that partially paralyzed my right leg in my 20s. I deal with osteoarthritis and facet arthritis in my lower back, so I see a chiropractor myself twice a week to keep my spine moving and manage the pain before I get on the ice.
This isn’t about avoiding aging; it’s about actively managing it. I practice what I preach, and I want people to know that you can stay in the game if you take care of yourself. It means making the right choices, eating the right foods, and committing to the habits that keep you healthy and functional.
So if you want to know how to stay active, reduce pain, and keep playing the sports you love as you get older, I’m living proof that it’s possible. Let’s do it together.
